Around 1880, the Old Port of Marseille was a bustling, central location, the historical and economic heart of the city since antiquity. At that time, the port was still Marseille's main commercial hub. It was a place of intense maritime activity: cargo ships, tartanes, fishing boats, and a multitude of merchants and artisans.
