In the mid-19th century, the Sun Inn, known as Poet's Corner, was Manchester's main literary meeting place; it was a historic timber-framed building. At the end of the 19th century, the Sun Inn was converted into a bookshop and pastry shop before being finally demolished.
H. Petschler & Co. was a Manchester-based photography studio active around the 1860s that contributed to the photographic documentation of Manchester and its surroundings. Their work included landscape and architectural photographs, as well as portraits.
