Giorgio Sommer (1834-1914) was an Italian photographer of German origin.
A great traveler, he took numerous photographs for albums, catalogs, and postcards. He worked in Rome and then opened studios in Naples. He photographed Pompeii, as well as the streets and architecture of Naples and scenes of daily life (often recreated in the studio). In partnership with the German photographer Edmund Behles, they became the most prolific photographers of the period.
Sommer was appointed official photographer to King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy.
