Rue Saint-André-des-Arts is an iconic street in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, located in the heart of the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
This street, whose history dates back to Roman times, owes its name to the former Saint-André-des-Arts church, built in the 13th century. It has undergone numerous transformations, particularly in the 1870s, and has been home to famous figures such as Baudelaire and Nadar.
Eugène Atget (1857–1927) was a French photographer famous for documenting old Paris before its transformation. For over thirty years, he captured streets, buildings, and scenes of daily life with a gaze that was both documentary and poetic. His work influenced the Surrealists and generations of photographers. Recognized primarily after his death, he is now considered a pioneer of modern photography.
