Mahogany frame with geared movement by crank and copper pinion. Appearing in the 1850s, the chromatrope consists of a wooden frame equipped with a crank that rotates two metal rings in opposite directions.
According to the catalogue “Luminous Projections” (1912 Maison de la Bonne Presse), “They produce such graceful and sometimes even astonishing effects that they have won the favor of the public and generally precede and conclude all recreational sessions.”
