A camera lucida is a prism used to project an image of external objects onto a sheet of paper.
The draftsman looks at the image through the prism while following the tip of his pencil to trace the outline.
This device, invented by Wollaston in 1804, has been greatly improved since and can be of great service to artists.
Made of nickel-plated copper and twelve lenses with different focal points, the camera is sold in its velvet-lined case with the P.Berville logo.
